KissCross Cyclocross (Richmond Park)

I’m quite delayed on my race reports because of one event, the MPRE. So I’m trying to still get caught up. With all of the talk by Eric about Iceman I figured I should throw in a quick update. He also made a joke about typing up a report for the MPRE. So first, I raced the Richmond Park Cyclocross race. I just reset my gearing from the last race, which was an excellent idea. I changed to a 32/14 compared to the 42/16 I raced in the prior race. Long story short, the race was fun. I dropped my chain twice and only dropped my bike twice in the barricades. I definitely acted more like a gazelle on that race. The best part was my prize. I finished 3^rd, which permitted me to win a Yakima car tray for the car I don’t own quite yet. I am still super pumped about it. Then I was busy the rest of the week studying for the MPRE, which is why this report is a week late. The MPRE turned out to be on November 7^th; the day of the Iceman. I woke up to 60 degree weather thinking about my teammates getting ready to race. The thought bothered me, but I got a slight glimpse in the morning by talking to Ben before the MPRE about his Iceman warm-up. The MPRE was a fight with the answer choices. I knew the rules and the outcome I wanted, then it was picking the best of the worse answers. So I guess I ‘ll know more in 5 weeks. I celebrated by taking Sunday off and enjoying the weather. Kristen and I met Eric in Grand Rapids on the tandem. It was a nice pleasant ride. We seen everything from organic chicken farms, a riverboat, two trains, and a sugar beet harvestor. In just under 75 miles and 4 hours later, we were met by Eric on 60^th street on his road bike. Luckily, he was nice enough to drive us back to Lansing where we all enjoyed a nice supper P.F. Changs.

On second a note, since I get to read Eric’s post before they go up, I’m in the peculiar position I can make remarks to his posts. I have been harassing him about his 29er. There is something about 29er guys. Once your apart of the club (which merely requires purchasing a 29inch wheeled bike), you get to classify other riders as 26ers. Those of who, by a 29er’s standards, haven’t figured it out. There was even a statement made by Eric on Sunday that a 26er cut him off. It’s almost as if the term 26er is as pejorative as backwoods redneck Nascar fan being yelled out in downtown Grosse Pointe. Regardless, quantitatively 29ers have been shown to be faster than 26ers. I interested to read his review. That being said, I wonder how long it will be until I can discriminate against another based entirely on there wheel size.
