Change in Course (Random Banter from Chris)
What a refreshing weekend? I finally asked myself what have I been doing lately? And am I on track with where I want to go? There’s been some internal frustration with whether 100 mile races are what I want. I still throw the idea around about a 24 hour race. Sometimes I swear I would never do it, and then just like yesterday it comes back to me … like it is something I want to do. And what about Leadville? Well, I know it is a 100 mile race and I still want to do it. The same goes for Lumerjack. With some assistance by internal processing and plenty of muched needed external advice I was able to figure it out. So where does that put me. Well, I still don’t have that question answered because I can’t solve everything. What I do know is Eric and I had originally set out to conquer the Lumberjack 100. This race only looms three weeks away at this point. I couldn’t be happier about the timeline. Eric and I are both in excellent form. We’ve proven that by our presence at the Cohutta 100 and the 6 hours of Stony Creek. I also know we are no longer attending the Mohican 100 for a whole slew of ridiculous self-rationalized reasons (basically so we can back out w/pride). Instead were going to our favorite race in Michigan …. Hanson Hills. What? What? Yeah, I’m sure your confused. I have a sick twisted love for this course. My history is tumultuous here. My first DNF. Hanson Hills. My first race in a Hurricane. Hanson Hills. My first race win that earned money. Hanson Hills. Only one time was I able to show up and have a typical race. So it is utterly exciting to look forward to Sunday because I have no clue what to plan for. I only know that Eric and I will bring our shoes, helmet, and bikes (wait and see). P.S. I do pray for good weather.
As I side note, since it is Memorial Day. Thank God for the troops, and I thank those who are willing to make those sacrifices to go over seas. In a related topic, I watched The Messenger this weekend, starring Woody. I think it is worth watching. It gives an interesting perspective from the soldiers that deliver the message to family and loved ones of fallen soldiers. It was very eye opening.
